Card Sleeve Care and Storage Guide
Keep card sleeves ready for game night with a clean play area, gentle loading, regular wear checks, and a deck box that fits comfortably.
Start with clean hands and a dry play area
Clear away crumbs and grit before you sleeve or shuffle cards. Use clean, dry hands and a clean playmat or table. Keep open drinks away from the deck: moisture can still enter through a sleeve’s opening.
Load cards gently
Check the card and sleeve for visible debris. Open the sleeve carefully and guide the card in without bending its corners. If it catches or feels too tight, stop and check the sleeve size.
For double sleeving, follow the inner sleeve maker’s instructions and test the pairing with a spare card first.
Give the deck enough storage space
Choose a deck box that comfortably fits the fully sleeved deck. Check capacity again if you add inner sleeves, tokens, or dividers. The lid should close without crushing cards or sleeve edges.
Store the deck somewhere dry, away from direct sunlight and heat. Sleeves are one part of your storage setup; a suitable box and careful handling still matter.
Check for wear before you play
Look for split seams, bent corners, creases, and obvious differences between sleeve backs. Replace damaged sleeves and check the rest of the deck. Matching spares are useful, but a noticeably worn deck may need a fresh set so that the backs look consistent.
For organized play, check the event’s current sleeve requirements or ask the organizer. Care advice does not establish whether a particular sleeve or color meets that event’s rules.
Move cards out of dirty or wet sleeves
If a sleeve is sticky, wet, damaged, or holding grit, move the card carefully into a fresh, dry sleeve. Keep liquids and cleaning products away from the cards. We do not currently provide a tested washing or chemical-cleaning method for Driftless sleeves.
