Card Sleeve Size Guide

Choose card sleeves by checking your card dimensions, comparing sleeve measurements, and testing the fit before sleeving a whole deck.

Measure the card first

Check the width and height of a card in millimeters, or use the card publisher’s specifications. Measure the cards you actually plan to sleeve: a game can include standard cards, smaller cards, oversized cards, or specialty pieces in the same range.

Check thickness too. A thick card or a card already inside an inner sleeve takes up more room than an ordinary unsleeved card.

Card size and sleeve size are different measurements

A sleeve needs room for a card to slide inside. Some makers list the card size a sleeve is intended to fit; others list the sleeve’s outside dimensions. Compare like-for-like measurements and check the maker’s recommended card fit.

Driftless Premium Matte Card Sleeves have a listed sleeve size of 66 × 91 mm and are labeled standard size. That measurement describes the sleeve; it does not guarantee a fit for every card smaller than those dimensions.

Test one card before committing to the deck

  1. Use a spare card of the same size and thickness.
  2. Check the card and sleeve for grit or debris.
  3. Guide the card in gently, keeping its corners straight.
  4. Check that the card sits comfortably and that the sleeve covers it.
  5. Stop if the card catches, bows, or requires force. Recheck the size and try a suitable alternative.

Leave valuable cards aside until you have checked the fit with a spare.

Allow room for double sleeving

Double sleeving places a fitted inner sleeve inside an outer sleeve. The added layer changes the fit and makes the finished deck thicker. Test the exact pairing, follow the inner sleeve maker’s loading instructions, and check that the sleeved deck fits your deck box without pressure.

Check the sleeve count as well as the fit

Count the deck and any extra cards you want to protect, then allow for matching spares. Driftless packs contain 100 sleeves. A 60-card deck plus 15 extras needs 75 sleeves; a 100-card deck plus 10 extras needs 110. See the pack-count guide for more examples.
